Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan has declared that he will renounce his deputy mandate and not join the new legislature.
According to Report, citing Armenian media, Simonyan made the announcement during a briefing.
"I wanted to continue my work as Speaker… I believed my five‑year term should have continued. I have repeatedly said I would follow whatever decision the administration makes. I have not discussed anything with the Prime Minister, there is no agreement. In politics and within the Civil Contract party, I do not see myself without Nikol Pashinyan," he stated.
Simonyan stressed that he harbors no resentment and views such changes as part of the political process.
He added that he intends to take some rest after a demanding period: "It was a difficult working cycle. Remember, this was a post‑election parliament, and we faced many challenges together with colleagues."
