Abbas Abbasov: Media played a key role in advancing decolonization

Mass media have played an indispensable role in efforts to raise global awareness about the consequences of colonialism and the importance of the decolonization process, Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), said at the international conference "Media and Decolonization: Rising Voices, Strengthening Narratives" held in Baku.

"Over the past three years, the Baku Initiative Group has made significant progress in raising global awareness about the consequences of colonialism and the importance of the decolonization process. Undoubtedly, the media have played an indispensable role in these efforts," Abbasov said.

He emphasized that journalists' commitment, professionalism, and efforts play a vital role in increasing global awareness.

"Your profession requires dedication and integrity. It is a dynamic and demanding field that often involves working under high pressure and tight deadlines. We highly value your commitment and responsibility, which are crucial for raising public awareness and keeping societies informed," the BIG executive director noted.
