A de facto buffer zone already exists between Russia and Ukraine as a result of the current front-line situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a briefing, Report informs via RBC-Ukraine.
His remarks came in response to a Politico report that European leaders are considering a buffer zone between frontlines as part of a potential peace deal.
"I've heard this idea more than once from Europeans and Americans. But only those who don't understand the technological nature of today's war propose a buffer zone of 40, 50, 60 - I even heard 100 kilometers. That's a completely different story. Nowadays, heavy weapons are already positioned more than 10 kilometers apart, because everything is within reach of drones," Zelenskyy noted.
He emphasized that such a zone already exists: "This buffer zone, which I call the ‘dead zone' - others call it the ‘gray zone' - is already there."
