WHO: Ebola outbreak in DR Congo largest ever recorded in country

The current Ebola outbreak has become the largest ever recorded in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, DRC, Report informs, citing a statement on the World Health Organization, WHO, website.
According to the organization, as of July 30, 2026, the country had recorded 3,605 confirmed cases, including 1,587 deaths. The overall case fatality rate stands at 44%.
WHO noted that the highest figures for the entire outbreak were recorded during the latest full reporting week, with 567 new cases and 296 deaths.
The organization stressed that the infection is spreading at an "extremely rapid pace" and that the outbreak continues to intensify.
The current outbreak, the 17th in DRC's history, began on May 15 in the country"s east and in Uganda. It has affected three provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
