Von der Leyen: EU allocates €100 million in humanitarian aid amid situation in Lebanon

The European Union has mobilized €100 million in humanitarian assistance for displaced people amid the situation in Lebanon and the wider Middle East, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a post on X, according to Report.

She welcomed the agreement between Israel and Lebanon, calling it an important step toward de-escalation, while stressing that peace is not possible as long as Lebanon remains in a state of conflict.

Von der Leyen also thanked the United States for its mediation efforts.

She said key next steps include the disarmament of non-state groups, as well as preserving Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, adding that the European Union stands ready to support this path toward sustainable regional stability, including through continued humanitarian assistance - €100 million has already been mobilized to support displaced persons.

On June 26, Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement mediated by the United States. The deal foresees a phased withdrawal of Israeli Defense Forces units from several areas in southern Lebanon, the restoration of Lebanon's full sovereign control over its territory, and the disarmament of non-state armed groups and related infrastructure. Once these conditions are met, Israeli forces are expected to gradually withdraw from the country.
