US prepares to approve transfer of 10 Patriot missiles to Ukraine

The United States is preparing to authorize the transfer to Ukraine of 10 additional MIM-104E GEM-T missiles for Patriot air defense systems, previously purchased by Germany and valued at $29.6 million.

According to Report, this was announced in a US State Department notification published on the US Congress website.

"This shipment is consistent with US security assistance objectives. The US government is prepared to authorize this transfer, taking into account political, military, economic, human rights and arms control considerations," the document said.

Under existing agreements, the transfer of US-made weapons by third countries requires prior approval from Washington.

The US State Department noted that Ukraine is seeking to acquire the systems to strengthen its air defense capabilities and already possesses munitions of the same type.
