US company wins first tender for Gaza Board of Peace reconstruction project

US company Arkel International, based in Louisiana, has won the first tender for the implementation of the Gaza reconstruction project under the Board of Peace, Report informs, citing The Guardian.

The newspaper said this, citing a source.

The first project of the Board of Peace will be the construction of a military outpost to accommodate 150 Moroccan servicemen. However, the contract has not yet been finalized.

The future base, measuring about 100 by 120 meters, will be located about 1.6 kilometers from the border with Israel, in an area controlled by the Israeli army. Moroccan servicemen are expected to be stationed at the facility and rotated from a base inside Israel.

The Guardian noted that the Board of Peace initially considered a large-scale plan to rebuild the entire Gaza Strip, but it was later reduced to a pilot project in the south of the enclave.

According to earlier project documents, the first stage provides for the construction of a temporary base for 150 people, with tents, field beds, chemical toilets and washbasins. The facility is later planned to be expanded into a military base capable of accommodating up to 5,000 servicemen from an international stabilization force.

The Board of Peace said it is finalizing several contracts together with the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, but none of them has been completed yet.

"One of the proposed contracts concerns facilities to support the International Stabilization Force, ISF, which will assist in implementing security and governance mechanisms," a Peace Board spokesperson said.
