US and Iran in talks on updated ceasefire memorandum

The United States and Iran are negotiating new terms to update the initial agreement reached in June.

According to The National newspaper, cited by Report, the main focus is on provisions related to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Mediators are "currently working on drafting an updated memorandum of understanding."

The memorandum of understanding, signed between the United States and Iran on June 17, set out the conditions for reopening the strait and launching negotiations on a permanent ceasefire during a 60-day pause in hostilities.

"Messages are being exchanged. The indirect negotiations are at an advanced stage," the official said, referring to discussions on the proposal. According to the official, the primary focus is "reopening the Strait of Hormuz and keeping it open."
