UN chief calls for immediate release of Guinean president

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has condemned the seizure of power in Guinea and called for the immediate release of the country’s president, Alpha Conde, Report informs referring to TASS.
“I am personally following the situation in Guinea very closely. I strongly condemn any takeover of the government by force of the gun and call for the immediate release of President Alpha Conde,” Guterres tweeted.
On September 5, elements of the Guinean Special Forces Group arrested long-time President Alpha Conde.
The group announced the success of a coup d’etat, which the National Defense Ministry denied, however.
