Russian forces used 28 ballistic missiles during a massive overnight attack on Kyiv on July 2, Yurii Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of the Ukrainian Air Force Command, said.
According to RBC Ukraine, cited by Report, Ihnat said the attack was one of the largest since the start of the full-scale war. He said Russian forces used Iskander-M ballistic missiles, Tsirkon missiles, and S-400 surface-to-air missiles configured for strikes against ground targets.
Ihnat said ballistic missiles remain the greatest challenge for Ukraine's air defense system, as only Patriot air defense systems are capable of intercepting them.
He added that Ukraine's air defense intercepts nearly 100% of cruise missiles and more than 90% of drones.
On the night of July 2, Russian forces launched a combined attack on Kyiv using drones and missiles. According to Ukrainian authorities, at least 18 people were killed and at least 85 others were injured. July 3 has been declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv following the attack.
