Ukraine says it hit Russian naval base in Novorossiysk

On the night of August 12, units of Ukraine's Defense Forces struck a naval base in Novorossiysk in Russia's Krasnodar region, Report informs, citing a statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the statement, four Russian warships were damaged as a result of the strikes: two Project 11356 frigates, the Admiral Makarov and the Admiral Essen; a Project 21631 Buyan-M small missile ship; and the Project 22160 patrol ship Vasily Bykov.

The Security Service of Ukraine, or SBU, specified that the Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov frigates are Kalibr missile carriers. According to the SBU, a number of port and oil infrastructure facilities in Krasnodar region were also hit.

In particular, strikes were carried out on a 30N6E radar station, which is part of the S-300 surface-to-air missile system; a mobile fire group at Pier No. 2 of the port of Novorossiysk; the tunnel portal of the Grushovaya oil depot, part of the Sheskharis terminal; and infrastructure at Piers No. 3, No. 6 and No. 7.

"Ukrainian drones, Palianytsia rocket drones, Neptune missiles and strike systems from our maritime platforms accurately hit designated targets," the SBU said.

According to the SBU, the Novorossiysk naval base is one of the key facilities of Russia's Black Sea Fleet and its main outpost.
