Ukraine calls for UN Security Council emergency meeting

Ukraine has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on July 27 due to the suspension of ship traffic in the Black Sea corridor following strikes by the Russian Armed Forces, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said in a post on X, Report informs.

"Russia is holding global food security hostage. At least three civilian cargo ships have been bombed in the past few days by Russia. Few dozen crew members have been killed and injured. Today, zero vessels passed through Ukraine's Black Sea maritime corridor-right at peak harvest," he stated.

Sybiha described the events as "deliberate economic and humanitarian terror."

"Millions of families across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America may face rising prices and hunger if this terror continues," the minister added.

He also pointed out that Ukraine has requested an urgent UN Security Council meeting for July 27: "We urge all states, particularly those affected, to immediately demand Russia stop its attacks on freedom of navigation in the Black Sea. No country has the right to starve the world."
