Trump says US could take control of Iran's Kharg Island

The United States could take control of Iran's Kharg Island, home to one of the country's largest oil export terminals, US President Donald Trump said while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Türkiye, Report informs, citing Sky News.

Trump said US forces had struck Kharg Island the previous night, adding that he had ordered the military not to target oil infrastructure because Washington could take control of the island and Iran would be unable to prevent it.

He said he had instructed the military not to strike pipelines, but to hit other targets, and added that further strikes could take place later in the day.

According to the US president, American forces also struck 28 small Iranian boats during the overnight operation.
