Trump calls on Fed to cut rates, threatens to halt trade with several countries

US President Donald Trump said Washington could halt trade relations with several countries if the Federal Reserve, the country's central bank, refuses to cut its benchmark interest rate.

According to Report, Trump said on Truth Social that the United States should have the lowest interest rate in the world.

"LOWER THE RATE OR I'LL STOP TRADING WITH COUNTRIES WITH WHICH WE HAVE A DEFICIT, which the US Supreme Court, in its ridiculous and very costly Tariff decision, strongly acknowledged 'the President' has an absolute right to do. IT'S BETTER THAN TARIFFS!" Trump said.

Following its meeting in late July, the Federal Reserve left the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.5%–3.75%. The US central bank's next meeting on interest rates is scheduled for September 15–16.
