Tibet death toll from China-Nepal border landslide rises to 43

The death toll from a major landslide near the China-Nepal border in the Tibet Autonomous Region has risen to 43, while 519 people remain missing, Report informs, citing Xinhua.

Chinese authorities announced the updated figures as search and rescue operations continued.

According to the latest data from the Nepalese side, the overall death toll from the disaster has exceeded 1,300, while more than 4,800 people remain unaccounted for.

The disaster struck northern Nepal on the morning of August 26. Preliminary information indicated that flooding was triggered by a landslide near the border with China.

A powerful flow of water, mud and rock traveled more than 70 km along the riverbed at high speed, destroying nearby settlements and inundating a wide area.
