Syrian court sentences Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia

A Syrian court has found former President Bashar al-Assad guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced him to death in absentia, Report informs via the SANA news agency.
No further details have been disclosed.
Meanwhile, according to Al-Hadath TV, his brother Maher and cousin Atef Najib were also found guilty of premeditated murder and torture.
"The court also found Maher al-Assad guilty of premeditated murder, torture and incitement and sentenced him to death," the channel reported.
Atef Najib, who headed the Political Security Branch in Daraa province under Assad, was also sentenced to death.
Bashar Assad and his family were granted asylum in Russia in December 2024 after his regime fell in Syria amid an armed uprising.
