Starmer intends to lead Labour into next parliamentary election

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said he intends to lead the Labour Party into the next parliamentary election, scheduled for 2029.

According to Report, Starmer made the remarks in an interview with the BBC following the resignation of two government ministers.

"That is what I want," he said.

At the same time, he acknowledged the need for change following the party's disappointing performance in recent elections.

Starmer stressed that he has no intention of stepping down as party leader and believes the country does not need another internal leadership crisis.

"I am not going anywhere. I do not think the Labour Party should drag the country into the chaos of a leadership contest," the prime minister said.

However, he added that he would be prepared to compete if such a contest were to take place.

"If that contest happens, I will fight it. This is not about personal vanity or stubbornness - it is driven by a deep sense of duty," Starmer emphasized.

The comments came a day after UK Defence Secretary John Healey and Minister for the Armed Forces Al Carns resigned, citing disagreements over the level of funding allocated under the government"s defense investment plan.
