Spain has begun using its winter gas reserves in the middle of summer for the first time in its history, Report informs, citing data from Gas Infrastructure Europe.
The move is linked to a shortage of electricity needed to power air conditioners.
From July 2 to July 14, Spain withdrew 39.4 million cubic meters of gas from underground storage facilities.
In addition, the country is not only drawing gas from storage but also failing to replenish its reserves.
This month, Spain's gas storage facilities were 73.3% full, the lowest level for this period since 2021.
