Slovakia opposes EU decision to phase out Russian gas imports

Slovakia voted against the adoption of a European Union (EU) decision to phase out Russian gas imports, the Slovak Foreign Ministry wrote on X, Report informs.
"Slovakia voted against the REPower EU regulation on the gradual phase-out of Russian gas imports. At the meeting of the EU General Affairs Council in Brussels, State Secretary Marek Eštok voted against the adoption of the regulation on behalf of Slovakia and expressed the country's fundamental reservations," reads the post.
The ministry also quoted the Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár: "We cannot accept solutions that fail to reflect the real capacities and specific circumstances of individual countries and that do not ensure a fair, realistic, and socially sustainable transition for all Member States. Therefore, Slovakia will turn to the EU Court of Justice and initiate proceedings aimed at the annulment of this regulation."
On January 26, the 27 member states of the EU officially adopted a decision on the phase-out of imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia by the end of 2027.
