Seven vessels have passed through the Strait of Hormuz following the signing of a memorandum between Iran and the United States.
According to Report, citing CNN, seven vessels had transited the strait as of Thursday.
According to data from Marine Traffic, four cargo vessels - a French LNG tanker and a bitumen tanker flying the flag of the Cook Islands among them - exited the strait into the Gulf of Oman. Another vessel, the Starway, sailing under the Panamanian flag, entered the strait heading toward the Persian Gulf.
At the same time, the Starway, which is capable of carrying more than 46,000 tonnes of oil, switched off its transponder, effectively disappearing from tracking systems.
The memorandum signed between the United States and Iran on June 18 provides for the launch of a 60-day negotiation process aimed at developing a comprehensive agreement between Washington and Tehran. The document also includes provisions on reducing tensions between the parties, discussing Iran's nuclear program, the gradual easing of sanctions, and ensuring the security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
