Serbia, Romania ink memo on Iron Gate 3 hydropower plant

Serbia and Romania have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Iron Gate (Đerdap) 3 hydropower plant, Report informs.

According to Serbia's Ministry of Mining and Energy, the document was signed in Bucharest by Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedović Handanović and Romanian Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan.

"Đerdap 3 is the largest energy project being developed by Serbia and has the potential to become the largest power plant in Europe. This project will bring numerous benefits to Serbia, ensuring a favorable position for large-scale electricity storage, balancing and the integration of cleaner energy sources, as well as the stability of our energy grid," Handanović said.

The minister stated that Serbia will begin preparing spatial planning documents and part of the project's technical documentation this year.
