Germany will reach the NATO target of spending of 2% of GDP on defense in 2024, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in Berlin, speaking at an event organized by the German Armed Forces, Report informs via TASS.
"We need a military that can protect our country," he said. The chancellor recalled that a €100 billion armed forces support fund was formed in 2022 for this purpose.
"Thus, in 2024 we will achieve the NATO target of 2% for the first time in three decades," Scholz said, calling this fund 'only the first step.'
