RBC-Ukraine: Rustem Umerov may head Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service

Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Rustem Umerov may be appointed head of the country's Foreign Intelligence Service.

As Report informs, citing RBC-Ukraine, Umerov's candidacy is being considered in view of his experience in international contacts and foreign policy.

"This is a natural field for Umerov - constant high-level international contacts, external engagement, and a structure that combines defense and the international track. It also provides a solid foundation for coordinating work on the anti-ballistic coalition, drone agreements, and other areas," the source said.

There has been no official confirmation of the report.

Earlier, Ukrainian presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn said that Umerov would leave his post as NSDC secretary, with Ihor Klymenko expected to succeed him. According to Lytvyn, Umerov's next appointment will be discussed separately with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
