Putin, Zelensky agree to receive papal envoys for Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to hold talks with special envoys of the Pope to discuss the achievement of a truce in Ukraine, Report informs via il Sismografo, a news outlet of Vatican.

According to il Sismografo, "there are preliminary agreements" regarding the dispatch of the head of the Bishops' Conference of Italy, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, and Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, prefect of the dicastery for the Eastern Churches, to Kyiv. However, il Sismografo notes, these names are not final.

As the outlet reported, the Holy See, through the embassies of Russia and Ukraine, requested from Moscow and Kyiv the opportunity to receive the papal envoys "in order to discuss the possibility of opening a negotiating path leading to a truce." Moscow and Kyiv "in an interim response declared their availability in principle," asking whether "there will be two envoys or only one for two capitals" and requesting their data.
