Pezeshkian: SCO Plus сan play important role in shaping multipolar world

The SCO Plus format, with its significant political, economic, demographic and geographic potential, can play an important role in shaping a multipolar world, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said at the high-level meeting in the SCO Plus format.

According to Report's correspondent in Bishkek, multipolarity should be based not on replacing one center of power with another, but on effective multilateralism.

"A multipolar world can lead to a fair order only if it is based on effective multilateralism, sovereign equality of states and the rule of law," the Iranian president stressed.

He noted that the SCO Plus format, with its broad geographic reach and significant political and economic potential, could become one of the important platforms for dialogue and cooperation among states playing a significant role in shaping the future international order.

Pezeshkian also said that the United Nations needs to adapt to new global realities.

"The UN should become an institution that more adequately reflects the realities of the new world and is able to fulfill its primary mission, namely maintaining international peace and security, more effectively," he said.

The Iranian president warned that rivalry among major powers could lead to further fragmentation, conflicts and instability, and called instead for efforts to build a multipolar world based on multilateral cooperation, respect for the UN Charter and equality among states.
