NATO announces $50B in new procurement and €70B in aid to Ukraine in 2026

Following the Ankara summit, NATO leaders announced new defense procurements worth over $50 billion and agreed to increase arms production and accelerate the implementation of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to strengthen deterrence against Russia, reads the final declaration of the summit.

According to Report, the document also reaffirmed the allies' commitment to provide Ukraine with €70 billion in military aid, weapons, and training by 2026. NATO countries also intend to maintain at least the same level of support in 2027.

Alliance members reaffirmed their commitment to the principle of collective defense enshrined in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

The declaration also emphasized that Iran must not acquire nuclear weapons. Allies called on Tehran to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The document called Russia a long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security and stability.

NATO countries stated that they continue to fulfill their previously agreed-upon defense commitments to counter the threat posed by Russia and terrorism.

NATO noted that in 2025, European allies and Canada have increased spending on key defense needs by more than $139 billion, with new investments aimed at expanding arms production, strengthening the defense industry, and enhancing the bloc's resilience.
