Uzbekistan will achieve its previously set target of increasing GDP to $160 billion in 2026, ahead of schedule, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at an event marking the 35th anniversary of the republic"s independence, according to a Report correspondent in Tashkent.
"Three years ago, we planned to increase GDP to $160 billion by 2030. Despite disruptions in global logistics and the unstable situation in the world, we will achieve this goal already this year," he said.
The president said Uzbekistan would then join the group of upper-middle-income countries by per capita income.
Mirziyoyev noted that the country has carried out large-scale reforms in currency, tax, customs and investment policy in recent years.
"If $2–3 billion in foreign investment was attracted to the national economy annually before, this figure now exceeds $40–50 billion," Mirziyoyev stressed.
He added that investments bring advanced technologies, modern knowledge and new economic opportunities to the country.
The president also said Uzbekistan, demonstrating political will, had opened up to the world, resolved border issues, and strengthened friendly ties and cooperation with neighboring countries.
