The management of Chubu Electric Power, the operator of the Hamaoka nuclear power plant, has decided to resign amid allegations of falsifying data on the plant's earthquake resistance.
According to NHK, cited by Report, the resignations of company President Shingo Hayashi and Chairman of the Board Satoru Katsuno will be officially announced on September 14.
The Hamaoka nuclear power plant had been scheduled to restart Units 3 and 4, but the operator previously withdrew its application due to the scandal.
According to the broadcaster, an investigation into the violations began in May 2025. Chubu Electric Power admitted that it had used a different method to assess the plant's earthquake resistance from the one stated in the report submitted to the regulator. The Japanese government has already pledged to take serious action against the utility company.
