Spain's central government has taken control of the port in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta and authorized the establishment of a temporary tent camp for migrants there, Report informs, citing RTVE.
Transport Minister Oscar Puente signed the relevant order despite opposition from Ceuta's regional government, headed by President Juan Jesus Vivas.
Regional authorities said on Friday that they opposed placing the camp in the port area, arguing that the port is vital for supplying the enclave and that a major fuel terminal is located nearby.
The local administration had previously opposed temporarily housing migrants in a former military hospital or sports centers.
Another camp with capacity for around 900 people is currently being set up in the Los Rosales district, prompting protests by local residents.
