French President Emmanuel Macron intends to present a plan for the deployment of a European military contingent in Ukraine at a meeting with US President Donald Trump to show that Europe has something to offer, according to Politico, Report informs via TASS.
Macron's proposal implies the participation of about 30,000 European troops in the mission in Ukraine, with the UK and France playing the leading role here, the newspaper quotes one of its sources as saying.
The source noted that in this way Paris wants to create a counterforce to the narrative about Europe's weakness and show that the countries of the region have their own proposals regarding the Ukrainian settlement. The publication's interlocutor among Macron's aides confirmed that the French president will arrive in Washington with some proposals for action, which he had previously discussed with other European leaders, including the British authorities.
According to Politico, French diplomats also hope that Macron will be able to convince Trump that maintaining trade relations with Europe and ensuring its security remains in the interests of the United States.
President Macron is one of the rare leaders who has real experience of interacting with Trump and who worked closely with him during his first term, the newspaper quotes one of the French leader's aides as saying.
