Macron calls on French government to fully mobilize over fuel prices

French President Emmanuel Macron called on the government to fully mobilize on ensuring the country's fuel supplies and controlling prices, French government spokesperson Maud Bregeon said following a meeting of the Council of Ministers.

According to French media outlets, cited by Report, she said Macron instructed officials to ensure gas and fuel supplies, as well as guarantee the necessary volumes from other countries, as was done with Iraq at the beginning of the week.

Bregeon also said that talks with Canada are planned during Macron's upcoming visit to Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

According to her, the French president also intends to work on the possibility of greater flexibility in regulation at the European Union level. The goal, Bregeon noted, is to reduce prices as much as possible or, at least, contain their increase.

Earlier, Macron and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi called in a joint statement following their meeting at the Élysée Palace for the diversification of hydrocarbon export routes in the Middle East amid instability caused by the conflict between the US and Iran.

In addition, French company TotalEnergies and the Iraqi government agreed to begin talks on several energy projects involving large-scale investments to increase oil production in Iraq.
