Russia doesn't aim to agree on a short-term ceasefire in Ukraine, but seeks to establish a lasting peace by eliminating the root causes of the conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a meeting of the Diplomatic Club, Report informs.
"The Russian position is not to agree on a ceasefire, but on the need to achieve long-term peace in Ukraine by eliminating the root causes of the conflict," he added.
Lavrov also noted that there can be no talk of any foreign military presence in Ukraine.
"The question of what military capabilities Ukraine will have is very important. There can be no talk of any foreign military presence here," he said.
