Kyrgyzstan supports reform of UN and Security Council, President Japarov says

Kyrgyzstan supports the reform of the United Nations (UN) and its Security Council, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov said at the high-level meeting in the SCO Plus format, as quoted by Report.

"Kyrgyzstan views multipolarity as expanding the circle of states participating in resolving shared issues. It signifies the recognition of diverse development paths, respect for cultures and traditions, and the equal distribution of opportunities and responsibility for the fate of the world. For us, the main criterion of fairness is considering the voice of every state and the strict operation of international norms that apply equally to all. That is precisely why the Kyrgyz Republic is firmly convinced that the United Nations must remain at the foundation of the emerging multipolar world. The UN is not a perfect mechanism. However, existing shortcomings should not serve as a pretext for weakening the organization's role," he noted.

According to Japarov, it is crucial to jointly strengthen the UN's role, enhance its effectiveness, and adapt its mechanisms to modern realities.

"Kyrgyzstan supports the issue of reforming the UN, including the Security Council. Such reform must be implemented through broad consensus," he stated.

The President recalled that in June of this year, Kyrgyzstan was elected for the first time in its history as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027–2028.

"I am confident that our upcoming membership in this body will open additional opportunities to strengthen its central coordinating role. During its non-permanent membership, Kyrgyzstan is also prepared to facilitate closer dialogue between the Security Council and regional organizations, as well as to share the experience accumulated in Central Asia in the peaceful resolution of complex inter-state issues," he noted.
