King Haakon VIII sworn in before Norwegian parliament

On September 1, King Haakon VIII of Norway took the oath of office before the Storting (Parliament) in accordance with the country's Constitution, Report informs via Interfax.

"I promise and swear that I will govern the Kingdom of Norway in accordance with its Constitution and laws. May Almighty and All-Knowing God help me!" he declared.

Under Article 9 of the Norwegian Constitution, the swearing-in ceremony is considered one of the most important constitutional acts. It confirms that the king's powers and authority are limited and regulated by the nation's Fundamental Law.

Currently, Norway has two queens: King Haakon VIII's wife Mette-Marit, who holds the title Her Majesty the Queen, and Sonja, the widow of King Harald V, who retains the title Her Majesty the Queen.

Europe's oldest monarch, King Harald V, passed away on August 28 at the age of 89.
