The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is expanding its support for urban recovery projects in Ukraine, including work on housing strategy and the development of master plans for key municipalities, stated UNECE Regional Adviser Javier Torner, speaking at a panel discussion within the framework of WUF13 in Baku, dedicated to the topic "Regional Group of Eastern Europe and Central Asia," Report informs.
According to him, the organization is actively collaborating with the UN-Habitat office and intends to bring this cooperation to a new stage, focusing efforts on identifying priorities for further work.
Torner noted that the key focus area for UNECE remains urban recovery and reconstruction, including spatial planning issues.
"We supported the national housing strategy by providing data and an analytical foundation for the development of housing policy. We also worked with the municipalities of Kharkiv and Mykolaiv on the preparation of master plans," he said.
According to him, the next stage will be the implementation of these plans at the level of individual districts, which should contribute to the recovery of the urban environment, job creation, and the return of economic activity to the affected cities.
