Iraqi prime minister to visit Iran for energy talks

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi will visit Iran on July 23 at the head of a government delegation to discuss energy issues and the regional situation, Report informs, citing Al Jazeera.

The visit will take place at the official invitation of the Iranian side.

Iraqi government spokesperson Haider al-Abadi said energy issues would be discussed during the talks.

He also said Iraq had signed agreements with the United States that provide, among other things, for the creation of alternative oil export routes.

According to al-Abadi, Iraq has developed plans for alternative export routes together with US companies to ensure the security of supplies amid the war that has affected the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

"Iraq has restored its strength, is not part of any conflicting axis, rejects interference in the internal affairs of other states, and is expanding foreign policy cooperation based on its economic interests," he added.
