India to expand joint defense production with European Union

India and the European Union (EU) have signed an agreement on partnership in the field of security and defense, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, Report informs.

He made the announcement at a press conference following the visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa to New Delhi.

Modi noted that New Delhi plans to expand joint defense production: "This will also reaffirm our shared commitment to a rules-based international order and allow us to broaden the scope of our cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region."

The prime minister also stated that, amid global instability, the partnership between the EU and India could serve as a stabilizing factor in the international system.

This agreement is the first comprehensive document between the two sides in the field of defense and security. It includes expanding cooperation in areas such as maritime security, defense industry and technologies, cybersecurity and hybrid threats, space, and counter-terrorism.
