House passes resolution calling on Trump to halt Iran strikes

The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution calling on President Donald Trump to halt US military operations against Iran, Report informs.

The vote in the lower chamber was broadcast by C-SPAN.

A total of 220 House members voted in favor of the resolution, while 204 voted against it. The measure therefore passed the chamber.

The resolution is non-binding and does not have the force of law. Such measures allow lawmakers to formally express their position, but the executive branch is not legally required to comply with them.

Under the US Constitution, the authority to declare war belongs to Congress rather than the president. However, in recent decades, US presidents have broadly interpreted congressional authorizations for the use of military force abroad, including using such authorizations as a basis for subsequent military operations.
