The opposition leader of Venezuela, speaker of the National Assembly of the country, Juan Guaido has urged his supporters to hold a national day of protest today.
"Today, on March 12, I urge all Venezuelans to come out to the streets and avenues nearest to them, at 15:00 a.m. The end of usurpation depends on our mass organized protests in the streets," the opposition leader wrote on Twitter.
Guaido's statement came amid continuing problems in the energy supply system in Venezuela, and an unprecedented shutdown in the history that occurred last week in 80% of the country.
Venezuelan authorities said that the cause of the energy collapse was a cyberattack, for which they blamed the United States.
