The German Federal Ministry of Defense rejected the call of coalition politicians to supply Ukraine with more weapons and, if necessary, to weaken its armed forces, Report informs, citing the Odessa-Journal.
A Berlin ministry spokesman said that the Bundeswehr could not take risks because of the threat posed by Russia under President Vladimir Putin.
“We must be prepared for the fact that Putin can take advantage of any weakness and even a temporary gap in the defense capability of NATO,” he warned.
Earlier, Bundestag deputies Christian Klink (SPD), Sarah Nanni (Alliance 90/The Greens), and Alexander Müller (FDP), in an article for Spiegel, voiced the opinion that Germany must urgently provide more weapons to Ukraine to ensure its survival, even if this entails temporary gaps in Bundeswehr.
