Four Belarusian citizens killed in minibus crash in Georgia

Four Belarusian citizens were killed and 15 others, including six young children, were injured in a road accident in Georgia's Guria region, Report informs, citing BELTA, which referred to the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

Two of the injured are in intensive care.

According to Georgia's Interior Ministry, the driver of the minibus failed to ensure safe control of the vehicle, as a result of which the minibus left the road and overturned into a ravine, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

The accident occurred on August 12 and involved a Mercedes-Sprinter minibus carrying 19 Belarusian citizens.

According to Interpressnews, the minibus was carrying tourists from the resort settlement of Gomismta to the city of Ozurgeti when it crashed. Preliminary reports indicated that the driver lost control and the vehicle fell into a roadside ravine.

Several passengers, including children, were taken to different clinics. The driver of the minibus was reportedly not injured.

Georgia's Interior Ministry has opened a criminal case over the incident. The case is being investigated under the article on violation of traffic safety or vehicle operation rules resulting in the death of two or more people. The offense carries a prison sentence of six to 10 years.
