Floods in eastern Afghanistan kill more than 40 people

More than 40 people have died as a result of floods caused by heavy rains in eastern Afghanistan, Report informs with reference to the United Nations.

The UN said dozens of people were injured and some remain missing following the disaster.

The flooding has caused significant damage to residential and public buildings, and other infrastructure. Assessments of the full extent of the destruction are still ongoing.

UN humanitarian agencies, together with their partners, are assessing the needs of affected communities and preparing response measures. Planned assistance includes temporary shelters, food aid, and medical services.

Earlier reports had said that 20 people had been killed in the floods.
