Finland's President says Beijing acts as nuclear deterrent against Russia

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has stated that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi assured him Beijing would not allow a Russian nuclear strike on Ukraine, Report informs, citing his interview with the German newspaper Bild.

According to Stubb, he raised the issue during a meeting with the Chinese minister in Helsinki in July.

"This summer, the Chinese Foreign Minister visited me, and I raised this issue. And he said, 'We will never allow this.' And I believe this is a fairly effective deterrent," the Finnish president stated.

He also emphasized that he does not believe Russia would ever attack NATO, citing the strength of the alliance and intelligence assessments while stressing the importance of preparedness.
