Expert: Strategically, Russia has already lost the war on all parameters

Russia is unable to defeat Ukraine which has immense western support, Ukrainian political scientist Yuri Reichel told Report.

"Strategically, Russia has already lost the war on all parameters," he said.

"Purely psychologically, Putin does not understand the military aspect of war. He considers that by such strikes he will be able to achieve something from Kyiv. Putin needs not so much the talks with Ukraine as talks with the United States for collective West to recognize him as an equal partner," the expert said.

He considers that West does not recognize Putin as an equal partner: "The Russian president has become a pariah, which makes him extremely nervous. Therefore, Putin is looking for ways out of this state, one of which is the actions in Ukraine."

Reichel considers that the Russian president currently tries to distract the attention of Russians from all the problems bred by mobilization: "Putin considers that if there are no victories on the front, it is necessary to create an illusion of victory by using PR, and missile attacks on Ukraine also fit for this idea."

He believes that the results of western sanctions will clearly emerge in Russia in December.

"Therefore, Putin needs to achieve at least any results in war with Ukraine. Putin cannot give up because the situation will worsen," the expert believes.

He added that from purely military point of view, it is possible to speak about the profound turning point in war, though not everywhere.

"If we speak about the south, particularly, Kherson oblast, the strategic turning point which is operative in nature has already occurred there," he said.
