European Parliament to support new sanctions against Russia

The European Parliament supports new restrictive measures against Russia by the European Commission and the European Union's international partners, European Parliament Speaker Roberta Metsola said, Report informs via RIA Novosti.

Metsola noted that the European Parliament would adopt a resolution supporting Ukraine at an emergency meeting on March 1.

"As legislators, we will help speed up the implementation of these measures," Metsola said.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the European Union, together with the United States, the UK, and other partners, had developed measures to remove a number of Russian banks from the SWIFT international interbank system. It is intended to limit the activities of the Central Bank of Russia, as well as deprive Russian businesses of access to international financial assets.
