EU to allocate €20 million for refugee support in Türkiye in 2026

The European Union will provide €20 million in humanitarian assistance in 2026 to support the most vulnerable refugees and host communities in Türkiye.

According to Report's European bureau, citing the European Commission, Türkiye remains one of the world's leading host countries for refugees, with around 2.3 million registered migrants currently residing in the country, primarily from Syria, as well as Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran.

The statement noted that although some refugees have access to basic services, hundreds of thousands continue to face socio-economic hardship, limited access to national support systems, and the lingering effects of the devastating 2023 earthquakes.

EU funding in 2026 will focus on supporting the most vulnerable groups, including people with limited or no access to essential services. The funds will be directed toward protection programs, basic humanitarian assistance, healthcare, and education.

The aid will be distributed through EU humanitarian partners in coordination with Turkish authorities.

"Communities hosting refugees cannot bear this burden alone," said European Commissioner for Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib.

According to the European Commission, since 2012 the EU has provided more than €3.5 billion in humanitarian assistance to Türkiye to support refugees and local communities.
