Enrique Silva: Most of the worlds public land is used inefficiently

A significant share of public land worldwide is still used inefficiently, stated Enrique Silva, Senior Program Manager at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, at an event held within the framework of WUF13 in Baku, according to Report.

He said that such lands are either not considered among priority public resources or are managed solely as administrative assets rather than as strategic resources:

"Public lands play the role of strategic infrastructure for inclusive development. In recent months, the Institute launched the PLACE initiative – Public Land for All Communities and Environments. Its goal is to strengthen the role of public lands and provide governments and communities with tools, knowledge, research, and practical support to unlock their public value," Silva said.

He added that one of the central principles of the PLACE initiative is that public lands should not be viewed as a passive set of state assets.

"At the same time, they should be treated as strategic infrastructure capable of supporting the development of various public goods. Brazil has already adopted this approach."
