Deputy minister: Housing policy in Liberia - mechanism for expanding economic opportunities

Liberia views housing policy not only as a tool for housing construction but also as a mechanism for expanding economic opportunities for women and youth, Fatima Bintu Sirleaf, Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs at the Ministry of Local Government, said at the World Urban Forum 13, Report informs.

According to her, the country's authorities strive to ensure that women and youth are not only recipients of affordable housing but also active participants in the housing sector – investors, entrepreneurs, and developers.

"Women are viewed not only as recipients of housing but also as developers and investors. This promotes gender equality and increases women's economic participation," Sirleaf noted.

The deputy minister added that affordable housing development contributes to increased tax revenues, infrastructure funding, and strengthening the resilience of local communities.
