Death toll from Venezuela earthquake rises to 4,490

The death toll from the strong earthquake in Venezuela has risen to 4,490, Speaker of the National Assembly of Venezuela Jorge Rodríguez announced on Telegram, Report informs.

It was noted that 16,740 people were injured, while another 17,907 residents were left homeless.

A total of 190 buildings were completely destroyed, and 856 structures suffered serious damage. Search and rescue operations managed to save 6,462 people, while 32,401 individuals received medical assistance in hospitals and treatment facilities. Support was provided to 120,794 families, and 9,995 tons of food were delivered to the disaster zone.

On the evening of June 24, Venezuela was struck by underground tremors. Two quakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, occurred about 40 seconds apart. The epicenters of both earthquakes were located in Yaracuy state, just 10 km apart.
