Death toll from Nepal flood rises to 579 - UPDATED

The death toll from flooding in Nepal has risen to 579, according to local media outlets, cited by Report.

The number of people reported missing has also increased to 1,924.

Floods in northern Nepal have claimed the lives of 469 people, according to Nepal Police, Report informs.

"The bodies of 469 people have been found, while 1,545 people have been injured or rescued," the latest law enforcement report stated.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with 13,295 personnel from the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police engaged. Rescuers are clearing debris and pulling people out from under collapsed structures.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah said the situation remains critical. He emphasized that the government's main priorities are rescuing people, searching for the missing, providing medical assistance to the injured, and supporting families affected by the disaster.

The floods struck northern Nepal on the morning of August 26, reportedly triggered by a rockslide near the Nepal–China border, about 20 kilometers northeast of the Rasuwagadhi checkpoint. Hundreds of people, including around 500 foreign nationals, remain missing.
